I ran out of bolts. That’s where it’s at.

Kinja'd!!!

Pro tip: If you’re ever thinking of trying to install a radiator support in one of these AFTER putting the fenders somewhat-on, DON’T. Take the fenders off and do it the right way.

Kinja'd!!!

It was a frigging struggle fest getting it in place on both sides, I had to loosen nearly ALL the bolts holding the fenders on. Like, 3 each. Big whoop, but still. That’s a lot of heavy metal in place fighting heavy metal being placed.

Kinja'd!!!

Also I am almost sure I have the new rad. support mounts in wrong, but I don’t care. I couldn’t find a good enough picture on Google at 10PM in my cold garage last night.

Kinja'd!!!

But it IS in.

Kinja'd!!!

I bolted the fenders back on, installed a BUNCH of bolts that were missing, ran out of those too, and was short 4 bolts I swear I had for the hood.... not that I was going to put it on last night anyways...

Kinja'd!!!

I got tired.

Hood tonight.

Or tomorrow.

I have more bolts now.

I fought a similar battle on my El Camino two years ago. I had to replace the radiator, and while I had it out I discovered the core support had some hidden rust. Knowing I’d just have to pull the radiator again if I put the repairs off, I pulled the core support too. After sandblasting, repairing the rust damage, and painting it, I didn’t want to pull the fenders to reinstall. Getting it wedged back in there was a challenge, but I made it happen without scratching too much paint off the freshly-repaired support (and none off the fenders). :)

FWIW, I’m 99% sure you have the support mounts in correctly.

Any particular reason you are putting the dog house on? You’re just going to have to take it back off for body work and engine install. I may have missed it, haven’t been keeping up with your progress as much as I should.

6 of the 8 the inner fender bolts I have. I found them in a bag the PO labelled as “Parts Inside Car”.

I knew that was wrong when I saw hod brown the bag was from rust.

I soaked them in PB and they went in fine.

When it comes back apart the bolts will be threaded back in, or at the LEAST bagged and labeled PROPERLY :P
